The Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Lisa Rutter, was “thrilled to see so many shoppers”, as she cut the ribbon to open the latest addition to the now 18-strong chain of All Aboard Charity Shops, which raise funds for Jewish and local charities. The well-stocked shop is in a prime position at 224 Station Road Edgware, next to the Post Office. This is the charity’s second Edgware shop – there is also a branch in Boot Parade, High Street Edgware. Outside, Town Crier Tony Appleton drew a large crowd who were joined by All Aboard supporters, staff and volunteers. These included founder Stella Lucas, trustees, Jeffrey Pinnick and Howard Brecker, and CEO Carol Marks. Inside, the Mayor was impressed with the “fantastic” range of goods, noting this was the 25th year for the charity which has raised £2.5 million since its inception. She had also opened the charity’s branch at Tally Ho Corner (Finchley), last year. She added: “People need charity shops and there are some lovely things, I’m going to browse. Thank you for inviting me again, I wish you every success.” The first customer, Farida Turner, from Elstree, was pleased with her purchase of a Lakeland onion peeler. Another satisfied customer, Edgware resident Mona Ciurea, bought a scarf and said: “I like it here; there are some nice pieces, I’ll be coming back.” Commenting on the opening, Mrs Lucas said: “This is a wonderful shop, so light and bright,” while Mrs Marks, paid tribute to the staff team who had been “working hard” to ensure the new shop was ready. These included the new manager, Pearl Moore, who joined All Aboard six months ago having previously worked in property sales and lettings management. She said: “It is refreshing to have a career change, I love it here.” Proceedings included a ceremony carried out by Rabbi Leivi Sudak, of Lubavitch of Edgware, who fixed a mezuzah to the door.
