Slimming World, the UK's largest network of slimming clubs, has teamed up with All Aboard Charity Shops for a 12-Week Challenge launched this week. Proceeds will benefit specific charities supported by All Aboard Charity Shops - Chai Cancer Care, Kisharon and Great Ormond Street Hospital, as well as Miles for Smiles, which is Slimming World's preferred charity.
Suzy Cohen, area team leader for Slimming World, explains: “I was at a district meeting and we had to decide what charities to support and I thought of All Aboard Charity Shops – I’ve admired them for years. It seemed the perfect idea because All Aboard has shops near our local groups and they can donate the clothes that they’ve slimmed out of. I’ve told the groups and they are all fired up – it’s a win, win situation.”
Also present at the Edgware launch, Carole Harris, who volunteers at the All Aboard Charity Shop in West End Lane, gamely dressed up in a collection sack. Commenting on the joint venture, All Aboard's executive administrator Carol Marks, said: “I’m delighted with our new partnership with Slimming World – it’s a brilliant example of [David Cameron’s] ‘Big Society’ and social responsibility. But you don't need to lose weight to give your clothes to All Aboard!"
A sponsored slim launched this week at Slimming World clubs in Borehamwood, Bushey, Edgware, Finchley, Mill Hill, Oakwood, Radlett, Stanmore and Whetstone, will benefit local and national causes. It is a joint initiative between Slimming World, the UK’s largest network of slimming clubs and All Aboard Charity Shops, to whom the slimmers will also donate the clothes that no longer fit.
Proceeds of the 12-week challenge will benefit specific charities supported by All Aboard Charity Shops - Chai Cancer Care, Kisharon and Great Ormond Street Hospital, as well as Slimming World’s preferred charity, Miles for Smiles.
Helping the venture are Slimming World consultants Abi Alter, Claire Album, Michael Drucker, Natalie Hanna, Karen Nathan and Sharon Robinson, who are handing out All Aboard collection sacks and sponsorship forms at other local groups.
At the end of the promotion, All Aboard will send a van to collect the clothes and any unwanted household items in good condition.
